JEFFERSON COUNTY, WV WATER ADVISORY COMMITTEE Mission The Water Advisory Committee was formed to support information collection and sound decision-making by the County Commission regarding water related matters. Issues surrounding water quality and quantity have become increasingly important to the future of Jefferson County. Formation of the Committee is intended to enhance communication, assist with long-term planning, increase issues awareness and identify opportunities for solutions and funding. Calendar The Jefferson County Water Advisory Committee meets monthly on the third Monday of each month at 3:30 PM in the Charles Town Library basement public meeting room. Membership The standing Water Advisory Committee was formed and approved in May, 2003 by the Jefferson County Commission with a full complement of nine members. Local individuals selected to serve on the Water Advisory Committee have diverse educational and professional backgrounds in water resources, water treatment, water quality and public health. Members of the Committee are also asked to have substantial background in water issues critical to the region and especially to Jefferson County. Committee members serve staggered three-year appointments. Interested local citizens are encouraged to participate and contribute through focused work groups on priority issues. Current members of the Water Advisory Committee: --Terms Expiring Jan 2007 Brad Reed- a District Engineer with the West Virginia Bureau for Public Health Joseph Hankins- Vice President of The Conservation Fund, Director of the Freshwater Institute and Board member of the Jefferson County Public Service District --Terms Expiring Jan 2008 Dr. Peter Vila, an Assistant Professor of Environmental Studies at Shepherd College and member of the Jefferson County Watershed Coalition Sherry Kelly- a Planner with Jefferson County Lee Snyder- the President of Jefferson Utilities and Snyder Environmental Services Dr. Oscar Stine - a member of the Jefferson County agricultural community
